Hot Apple Cider (AIP)

A delicious hot apple cider that is AIP friendly and added sugar free!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp AIP Allspice (1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves, 1/2 tsp mace)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 six inch pieces of cheesecloth plus extra cheesecloth for straining apples and string
  • 8-10 organic gala apples quartered
  • filtered water enough to cover the apples
  • 1-2 slices/sticks apple slices or cinnamon sticks garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and quarter apples. Add to large pot and cover with water.
  2. Wrap cinnamon sticks and AIP allspice in two 6 inch pieces of cheese cloth. Bundle ends together and tie with string. Place wrapped spices in the pot.
  3. On medium high heat, bring pot to a boil. Boil on medium heat for 1 hour. Then turn heat to low and simmer for 2 hours partially covered.
  4. Remove lid and remove from heat. Let cool. Remove spices and discard.
  5. Mash apples and then pour apples into a strainer lined with a cheese cloth. Squeeze juice from apples.
  6. Store apple cider in a glass jar in the fridge for up to two weeks or freeze. Reheat in a small pan on the stove. Serve with an apple slice or a cinnamon stick for garnish.
