Should You Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth on the Paleo AIP Diet?

While it’s important to follow the principles of the Paleo AIP diet strictly during the elimination phase (including limiting your daily intake of sugar to 20 grams or less) it’s also important to satisfy your sweet tooth from time to time. Depriving yourself of treats can lead to feelings of deprivation and ultimately lead to binge eating or falling off the diet altogether.

By finding ways to indulge in sweet treats that are AIP compliant, you can satisfy your cravings without compromising your hard earned efforts. This ‘”coffee” ice cream recipe is the perfect example of a delicious treat that fits within the guidelines of the diet!

Coffee and the Paleo AIP Diet

Coffee is temporarily eliminated during the first phase of the Paleo AIP diet. Some people may continue to avoid it even after the first phase is over because they find it triggers an immune or stress response or even disrupts their sleep. The good news is that if you are avoiding coffee for any reason, but you are still craving coffee ice cream, this recipe will hit the spot! It uses a coffee substitute blend made from roasted chicory root, carob root, and dandelion root, which provides a similar flavor to coffee without the potential negative effects.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings for Paleo AIP ‘Coffee’ Ice Cream

This ice cream is delicious on its own, but it’s also great paired with fresh fruit or toasted sliced tigernuts. Try serving it with sliced strawberries or chopped bananas for a delicious and satisfying treat. It also pairs well with a cup of herbal tea like peppermint.
